That's right, there is important maintainence to do from the first day of installation and on a regular basis after that. By maintaining from the start, the wood is prevented from drying too quickly, allowing the wood time to adjust to the elements. This helps prevent cracking in the wood to occur, right from the start. Maintainence includes regular cleaning and reapplication of the products to protect the wood and keep it looking beautiful.

THE CLEANING PROCESS

The cleaning process involves not only cleaning of the wood but also proper preparation of the wood. Use of a good soap solution is essential here. Bleach products are not to be used because of the damage that they can do to the wood and the fact that bleach does not clean, it only whitens the wood. This leads to an inferior and inappropriate preparation of the wood.

THE FINISHING PROCESS

The finishing process is what protects and keeps the wood looking good. We recommend only products that are registered as a wood finish and as a wood preservative. These products do not produce a glaze on top of the wood which eventually peels or flakes off. They do not trap moisture behind the product and cause damage in the wood like coatings do. They protect by maintaining the oil levels in the wood which prevent the wood from drying and also prevent moisture from penetrating. The finish part of the product is what gives the good appearance and prevents the wood from graying, due to sun damage.
